NEWPORT, N.Y. – The West Canada Valley Central School District notified parents Thursday after a positive case of coronavirus was confirmed at the elementary school.
The district's announcement did not specify whether it was a student or staff member who tested positive.
All students in pre-K through sixth grade will switch to remote learning until Friday, Sept. 18. The school building will be sanitized and disinfected over the weekend, and students are expected to return Monday, Sept. 21.
Superintendent D.J. Shepardson says middle and high school students and staff are not impacted.
Parents can contact the district office with any questions.
According to the New York State COVID-19 Report Card, a staff member at Valley View Elementary School in Otsego County has also tested positive for the virus.
No cases have been reported in Oneida County schools.
