ONEIDA, N.Y. – Oneida City Police Department is warning residents of a scam that’s been reported, where people receive a text notifying them that they've come in contact with someone who has COVID-19, and to click a link.
The text reads “Someone who came in contact with you tested positive or has shown symptoms for COVID-19 & recommends you self-isolate/get tested. More at [link].”
Police warn people not to click the link in the text.
The Madison County Health Department says they will never contact the public via text message. The agency calls people by phone to notify them of potential exposure to coronavirus.
