UTICA, N.Y. – Representatives from Cree, the company that plans to build a manufacturing facility in Marcy, visited SUNY Polytechnic Institute Monday.
SUNY Poly was having a job fair, and the CEO of Cree spoke with students about the work that will be done at the new silicon carbide wafer manufacturing facility.
"We're going to need to have these students graduate from SUNY POLY and become employees of Cree -- so we're getting them interested and excited about our technology," said Gregg Lowe, CEO of Cree.
Lowe also presented the SUNY Poly Institute Foundation with a check for $25,000 to invest in and expand its science, technology, engineering and math programs.
This marks the beginning of Cree contributions that will also enhance the student robotics program.
Cree plans to bring more than 600 jobs to the area with the new manufacturing facility.
