UTICA, NY – The Mohawk Valley got a chance to see what job opportunities are going to be available at the new Cree/Wolfspeed facility on Monday.
The company held a virtual hiring town hall to give residents a chance to not only learn about those jobs but to find out more about Cree and what they do.
Some of the products that will be manufactured at the new plant include semiconductors and power modules. These devices can then be used for such things as charging electric vehicles, communication infrastructure, aerospace, and defense. At the end of the town hall participants were able to submit questions to the Cree panel.
Questions like, what positions are available if you don't have the necessary 4-year degree.
"Sometimes semiconductor manufacturing is different than other manufacturing industries," says Adam Milton, Director of Operations.
"There are roles like the manufacturing technician. That's a good way to get an idea of what it's like to work in a clean room and learn if you're capable to do the types of jobs we're going to do."
Cree currently has 77 job openings that need to be filled by August. The company expects that number to grow as it expands.
