GERMAN FLATTS, N.Y. – The Creekside Mobile Home Park has reopened after it was shut down in 2017 by the town of German Flatts.
Homes in the park were damaged after Fulmer Creek flooded in 2013, and the town denied permits needed to complete repair work.
The park was deemed inhabitable in 2017 due to the flood risk, and owner Virginia Jacquish has been involved in litigation to reopen the park ever since.
“We've been fighting it for all these years. Basically, defending ourselves from all these accusations and things that were wrong,” she said. “We had to move unit 114 out. Jackhammer out the concrete slab. Remove everything, and everything's right back where it was.”
An agreement between Jacquish and the town was finally met on Oct. 28, allowing the park to reopen.
Several tenants who were forced to leave in 2017 have already returned, and Jaquish says she plans to have the rest of the units filled in the next few months.
