UTICA, N.Y. -- Members with the Utica Fire Department responded to a fire within an apartment building early Tuesday on the 800 block of Oswego Street.
Initial calls of a room filled with smoke came in shortly after midnight. According to Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll, crews battled flames coming from the third floor of an apartment building.
No injuries were reported as residents were each evacuated by fire personnel. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced, as fire officials say at least 3 of the 12 apartments are not liveable.
Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll says if it were not for the quick actions of his crew, matters may have gone worse, as the high winds overnight could have worked against them.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
