MARCY, N.Y. – Construction vehicles are on site of the new Cree manufacturing facility coming to Marcy.
The North Carolina-based company plans to build local plant to produce silicon carbide wafers.
Representatives from the company say they plan to break ground in Marcy this winter.
“They're going to be tenting up some areas to keep the ground in the area where we are going to be doing work soft enough to do the work we are going to be doing through the winter, and then you are going to see foundations being poured, and so forth, so you 'll see a gradual increase in activity on that site,” said Gregg Lowe, CEO of Cree.
The new facility is expected to bring 600 jobs to the area, and establish a partnership with SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
