ROME, N.Y. - Mohawk Valley Community College in Rome held a Damsel in Defense lecture Tuesday night.
Damsel in Defense is to equip, empower, and educate women to protect themselves and their families along with offering empowerment and healing to those affected by assault.
The presentation was about basic self-awareness and prevention strategies.
There was also an assortment of safety and self-defense items for demonstration.
Those in attendance also got to learn some simple self-defense moves.
"It works for children, for adults, all ages, I've worked with my parents, my grandparents, males, females," Debbie Cole, from Damsel in Defense said. "Anyone can be a victim, which is unfortunate and that is not what we want, we want everyone to feel safe, we want everyone to feel empowered and we want everyone to go out and do the things they want and have a little bit of confidence, have something in the back of their mind that they can use to protect themselves.
