Demko, Boucher selected to 2018 AHL All-Star Classic

Two Comets, goalie Thatcher Demko, and forward Reid Boucher, have been selected to represent the Comets in the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.

Utica, N.Y. - The AHL All-Star Classic returns to Utica for the second time in the last four seasons at the end of the month, the rosters for that weekend were announced, Thursday.


Among the all-stars this year, two Utica Comets have been selected to represent the best of the best in front of the home crowd.

One of the two selections, goalie Thatcher Demko, who has impressed in his second campaign as a pro. He's appeared in 22 games with the Comets this season where he is 11-6-3, his 11 wins are tied for seventh in the league, while he is fifth with a .924 save percentage.

He is third in saves with 653 and minutes played with over 1348 and was named the CCM/AHL goaltender of the month in October.

This is Demko's first all-star selection.

The other selection, forward Reid Boucher, a fifth-year pro also appearing in his first AHL all-star classic.

Boucher is currently up with the canucks in the NHL, but still leads the Comets with 13 goals, 25 points and 88 shots through 25 games this season.

In addition, he shares the team lead for assists with 12 and power play goals with five.

He has appeared in three games for vancouver this season.


Joining Demko and Boucher on the North Division all-star team will be:

Another notable player to watch out for is longtime Comets fan favorite, Alexandre Grenier, who will return to Utica as a member of the Atlantic Division team as a member of the Springfield Thunderbirds.

The festivities begin on Sunday, January 28, at 8 p.m. with the skills competitions.

The 3-on-3 All-Star Challenge is on Monday, January 29, at 7 p.m.
