NEW YORK -- Governor Cuomo has appointed a design team that will install cashless tolling on the New York State thruway.
It would be a $355.3 million investment into the project.
The state would remove existing cash toll booths in 52 locations statewide.
Governor Cuomo commented on why this would be in New York's best interest.
"New York State is making historic investments building a modern transportation network worthy of the 21st century and beyond. By investing in technology like cashless tolling, we are creating a safer, greener and less congested Thruway system and ensuring our transportation infrastructure is capable of supporting New York's growing economy," Cuomo said.
cuomo says construction is set to start in the late summer and and early fall and should be completed by the end of next year.
