Devils sign four players who could see time with Comets

The New Jersey Devils have signed forwards Joe Gambardella, Brian Flynn, Robbie Russo and Chase DeLeo to two-way contracts, as they will like spend time in Utica this upcoming season.

NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Devils made a quartet of free agent depth signings, Thursday, with players that will likely see time with the Utica Comets this upcoming season.

The Devils have inked forwards Joe Gambardella, Brian Flynn, Robbie Russo and Chase DeLeo. Gambardella's and Russo's deals are for two years, while Flynn's and DeLeo's are for one year.

All contracts are two-way contracts, meaning each player will get different salaries based on time spent in the NHL and AHL.

Gambardella, a 27-year-old Staten Island, N.Y. native, has spent the past five seasons playing for the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, where he has 63 goals and 48 assists for 111 points in 183 regular season games.

He has also played 13 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers where he has three assists.

He was a 2019 AHL All-Star.

Gambardella's contract is for $750,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level this coming season.

Flynn, 33, spent the last two seasons with HC Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland where he has appeared in 112 games and has 27 goals and 49 assists for 76 points. He won the Swiss Cup with the team in the 2018-19 season.

He's also appeared in 137 AHL games with the Rochester Americans, Texas Stars, and San Antonio Rampage where he has 35 goals and 54 assists for 89 points. Flynn has 79 games of NHL experience with the Buffalo Sabres where he has six goals and seven assists.

His contract is worth $750,000 at the NHL level and $280,000 in the AHL.

Russo, 28, spent last year with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda, where he had two goals and 13 assists in 34 games.

Overall, in 358 career AHL games with the Barracuda, Grand Rapids Griffins, and Tucson Roadrunners, Russo has 31 goals and 145 assists for 176 points.

He's a 2016 AHL All-Star.

Russo's deal is worth $750,000 in the NHL and $280,000 in the AHL this upcoming season.

DeLeo, 25, has spent the last three seasons splitting time between the NHL's Anaheim Ducks and their AHL affiliate San Diego Gulls.

In 365 career AHL games with the Gulls and Manitoba Moose, DeLeo has amassed 90 goals and 132 assists for 222 points.

His contract is for $750,000 at the NHL level and $300,000 at the AHL level.
