UTICA, N.Y. --- Dr. Richard Chmielewski is a Utica Physician that specializes in Osteopathic Therapy. Therapy designed to therapeutically alleviate symptoms of viral infections such as influenza and even COVID-19. Chmielewski calls it the Influenza protocol and has been practicing it successfully for about 11 years.

The treatments date back to the early 1900s during the 1918 Spanish Flu. Doctors back then used massage techniques to alleviate symptoms due to a lack of anti-biotics. Chmielewski said that the symptoms of Spanish Flu are similar to that of COVID-19.

"A lot of the symptoms are pretty similar. You're just kind of not feeling well and then you eventually get a spike in fever. In most cases but not all," said Chmielewski.

Chmielewski has videos up on his YouTube page demonstrating how the procedure works. He said its similar to that of physical therapy or massage therapy. He said it's extremely effective at opening what he calls the "sewer system" within our bodies.

The "sewer system" that he describes relates to the liquid that forms in our body, specifically the lungs during influenza or COVID-19.

"They are extremely powerful at opening up that sewer system, allowing the fluids to then freely flow to help the body correct itself," said Chmielewski.

But Chmielewski said that until a vaccine is created, the best defense against the virus is to stay home.

"I think if you have anything, including COVID-19, we need to do the public health measures there and just not pass it on to other people. I know could be a financial hardship and everything else, but they have to be ways around that so we can limit the spread around there," said Chmielewski.
