DOLGEVILLE -- A local organization in Dolgeville recognized several students Wednesday for their efforts in tobacco prevention.
Reality Check is a program aimed at creating tobacco-free communities in Herkimer, Oneida, and Madison counties.
One student, Phoenix Longway, was awarded Youth Advocate of the Year Award for her commitment to the organizations cause.
"She stepped above and beyond on multiple occasions”, Youth Action Specialist Rachel Johnson said. “She actually memorized a speech, went in and met with the legislative offices. Did the whole thing. She stepped in to multiple occasions, giving speeches of the mayor. Helping out. She just really stood out from the group as being an advocate and a leader."
Reality Check staff says tonight's event was held for the youth to celebrate their accomplishments with family and friends.
