DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. – Dolgeville residents will vote on the school budget again next week, after it failed to pass by a supermajority in June.
In Dolgeville, the budget needs to pass by a majority of 60%. There were 606 ‘yes’ votes in June, but 642 were needed to reach the supermajority.
Voters can cast their ballots in the next vote on July 28 at the high school.
Anyone who wishes to vote via absentee ballot, needs to mail it in by Tuesday, July 21. To get a ballot, call the school district at 315-426-3155 ext. 3501.
This $18.5 million budget includes a 1.18% tax increase, down from the 1.99% originally proposed.
A public hearing was held last week to discuss a contingency plan if the budget fails for a second time.
Officials say if the budget fails again, they may have to use more of the fund balance to make up the difference.
The district would also like to purchases new buses, but that proposal was rejected in the June vote as well.
