Driver charged after 2 passengers die in Pittsfield crash

A 26-year-old Otego man has been charged with manslaughter after his two passengers died when he crashed his vehicle in Pittsfield on July 15.

PITTSFIELD, N.Y. – A 26-year-old Otego man has been charged with manslaughter, after his two passengers died when he crashed his vehicle in Pittsfield on July 15.

New York State Police say Shane Santiago was driving "recklessly" on County Highway 13, when he went off the road and crashed. Both of his passengers, 21-year-old Tehya Gonzalez and 21-year-old Cheyenn Aubry, died in the accident. Santiago suffered minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

Santiago was arrested at his home on Aug. 11. He was virtually arraigned and remanded on $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
