BOONVILLE, N.Y. – A grand jury has indicted a Liverpool man on manslaughter charges after two women died following a head-on crash in Boonville last fall.
On Sept. 12, 2020, Rakwan D. Marshall, 23, was driving a Mercedes on State Route 12 when New York State Police say he went to pass the vehicle in front of him and hit a Chrysler Sebring that was heading the opposite direction in the other lane.
The passenger in the Chrysler, 42-year-old Cary A. Croniser, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 38-year-old Sarah J. Stinebrickner, of Boonville, was hospitalized with critical injuries.
Marshall’s 19-year-old passenger, Yairis Brito, was also hospitalized and died on Sept. 23 from injuries sustained in the crash.
Marshall is charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter, one count of second-degree assault and several traffic infractions. In New York, each second-degree manslaughter charge carries a maximum sentence of five to 15 years in prison.
The warrant was issued Tuesday, Sept. 14, and Marshall was arrested by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department.
He was remanded to the Oneida County jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
