UTICA, N.Y. – A Utica woman is accused of using a family acquaintance’s money for personal use for four years after she was designated his power of attorney.
Becky M. Kelsey, 60, was charged with felony grand larceny for allegedly stealing $170,000 belonging to her 72-year-old ward from 2015 to 2019.
New York State Police say Kelsey was removed as power of attorney in October of 2019, after Oneida County Surrogate Court found discrepancies in her ward’s accounts when he was admitted to a long-term care facility.
The following investigation and audit showed more than $170,000 in monetary discrepancies.
Kelsey was arrested on Oct. 13, arraigned and released on her own recognizance.
