UTICA – Security for the Boilermaker Road Race will be tight for runners and spectators alike this Sunday.
No backpacks or coolers will be allowed on the course. Runners can bring personal items in clear plastic bags, which will be loaded onto a baggage truck at the start line.
Drones are not permitted. Also, leave your pets at home. There will be a strong police and K9 presence on the course.
Keeping everyone safe is a group effort. Utica Police say they work with various local agencies and The U.S. Department of Homeland Security year-round.
“...as soon as the Boilermaker is over, we are planning for this year or the year after. It's a continuous process. Every month, twice a month even... the committees are meeting and making sure this is a safe and effective run for everyone,” said Utica Police Sgt. Mike Curley.
The Boilermaker does pass by two of our three Utica-area medical centers. St. Luke’s will only be accessible from the Burrstone Road entrance on the morning of the race. Faxton is only accessible from Newell Street. Faxton urgent care will be open during the race.
