ALBANY, N.Y. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a lost wages grant for the state of New York, that will fund an additional $300 in unemployment benefits to those eligible.
Claimants were receiving an extra $600 in benefits until the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program ended on July 31.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump made more than $44 billion available in disaster relief funding through FEMA, to provide assistance to those who have lost wages during the coronavirus pandemic.
New York agreed to administer a relief program, and FEMA is working with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to implement a system that will make the funds available to New Yorkers unemployed due to the pandemic.
It is not yet clear when people will start to receive the additional $300 per week.
