Utica, NY - This afternoon the National Hockey League decided suspend the regular season. In-turn, the American Hockey League, the NHL’s minor league, suspended their season as well. Meaning that the Utica Comets’ season is on hold until further notice.
Shortly after that the NCAA announced that all winter and spring championships have been canceled which includes the top-seeded Utica college Pioneers’ run to a national title.
Utica hockey fan Dan Paciello says, “It’s bad timing. The playoffs start, the Comets are playing good, Utica College is playing great. But like I said, I think it’s the right thing to do."
“It's crazy because they were doing super good and I hate to see them get shut down right before they're about to probably do something great,” added Carter Jarvis, Utica hockey fan.
Utica College was riding a 20-game winning streak and held the No. 1 spot in the NCAA tournament before today's cancellation.
There is no clear timetable for the return of the AHL season.
