JAMESVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Police officers assisting a psychiatric crisis team shot and killed a 17-year-old after he appeared to point a handgun at them, police said.
The unidentified male was shot Thursday afternoon by officers responding to a home on Apulia Road in Jamesville.
Local sheriff’s deputies, state troopers and officers with the DeWitt Police Department were assisting a psychiatric mobile crisis outreach team with an uncooperative 17-year-old patient.
Police say the suspect fled on foot and when officers approached him, he raised and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the officers. The officers fired and struck the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
