UTICA, N.Y. – A Utica man is charged with endangering the welfare of a child after his 2-week-old newborn was taken to the hospital to be treated for bruises, face swelling and bleeding in the mouth.
Than Win, 21, was arrested at his Seymour Avenue home on May 26, and charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office initially investigated the April 16 incident after the mother brought the infant to the hospital, but did not find enough evidence to pursue charges.
After further investigation from the Child Advocacy Center, new evidence was found supporting that the baby sustained the injuries while in Win’s care. It is not clear exactly how the baby was injured.
The child was treated and released after the original incident.
An order of protection has been requested through the CAC on the baby’s behalf.
