NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- The New Hartford American Legion Auxiliary presented the "Feed Our Vets" organization with a $1,000 check Thursday afternoon.

The legion held a food drive, bottle drive and raffle to make up the money in this donation.

The organization is funding completely through private donors and donations.

As the holidays come and go, and the giving season winds down, every dollar counts.

“So to us that means a lot. That’s gonna buy a lot of food. We do not see any government funding, and the grants we do get are only several hundred dollars here, and there so we do not receive any grants, major grants to help feed the men and women that provided for our freedom,” said Feed Our Vets Founder Richard Synek

Since the organization was established 11 years ago, they have fed more than 20,000 veterans and their families.
