NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. – After receiving an order to vacate their old space on Genesee Street in Utica, Feed Our Vets has officially opened at its new location in New York Mills.
The organization provides food to veterans in the area, and has had to stop its services while relocating.
Founder Richard Synek said a two-year lease was signed for the new building, but he hopes to purchase a permanent home so they can continue serving veterans as they have for more than a decade.
"Today is our 11-year anniversary as being a nonprofit and we wanted to make sure it just happens to fall on a Wednesday and when we were able to open," he said.
Volunteers helped Synek organize the new space, putting together shelves and stocking the food.
"We have well over 11 pallets of just food, and then all of the equipment and the shelving it took all the volunteers a good three solid days moving this all in and another week of setting it up and getting the flow of how we want it," he said.
Feed Our Vets is now located at 587 Main St. in New York Mills, next to the Fitness Mill.
