(UPDATE) - The Yorkville fire chief said a woman and her daughter were badly injured in a house fire in Yorkville Thursday evening.

The fire at a home along Campbell Avenue in Yorkville broke out just after 10:00 p.m. First arriving units encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the second story apartment and attic of the two-family home.

The Yorkville fire chief said the two victims were being treated at a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The fire was severe enough to cave in the roof while crews worked to battle the flames. Neighbors said fire fighters also had a tough time getting water to the scene because the closest fire hydrant was frozen shut.

Authorities are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. The Yorkville fire chief told NEWSChannel 2 he could not confirm the circumstances of whether or not the two lived in the home.
