UTICA, N.Y. (UPDATED) – Utica firefighters rescued a man from a house fire on Oak Street Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m.
Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll says the victim did was treated for burns at the scene, and then taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He has since been transferred to SUNY Upstate Medical Center where he is in critical, but stable, condition.
Firefighters came through a window on the side of the house to search the area, and found the man on the first floor.
Ingersoll says the fire started to spread to a neighboring home before firefighters got the flames under control just before 8 p.m.
A dog and a cat also died in the fire.
Ingersoll says the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
