UTICA, N.Y. -- The Utica Fire Department, and rescue crews were on the scene of a fire during the overnight hours at Olbiston Apartments in Utica.
Calls came in just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday of a working structure fire in one of the high-rise apartments.
Utica Fire Chief, Scott Ingersoll, tells NEWSChannel 2 the small fire was confined to a vacant room on the first floor of the building.
Residents were being evacuated as fire crews were working to get the smoke vented out of the apartment building.
Chief Ingersoll says there is minimal damage. No residents have been displaced.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
NEWSChannel 2 previously reported that Obilston Apartments is being sold to a New York City real estate developer for over a million dollars. Once the sale has closed, 'Exact Capital' plans to gut and remodel the apartment building.
