ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hartwick College has confirmed its first positive case of coronavirus among students, after neighboring SUNY Oneonta just announced it would be closing for two weeks due to an outbreak.
The Hartwick student is isolating at home, and the Otsego County Department of Health is working on tracing and notifying contacts.
After more than 100 tested positive at SUNY Oneonta in just one week, Hartwick announced new visitor restrictions on Aug. 28, to prevent a similar situation.
According to the new rules, only the following people are allowed on campus until further notice:
- Students
- Parents and families of students
- College employees
- Scheduled admissions visitors
- Delivery people
- People with written authorization from college officials
The visitor limitations apply to the entire campus, including Table Rock and Strawberry Fields, Elmore Field and the running track, and the Pine Lake Environmental Campus.
