The weather is beginning to change and a lot of snow is melting putting water on the roads. But this water will freeze over to black ice for the start of next week.
After the sunshine we had today, the winter scene is melting away. And this weekend we will see quite the warm up. Temperatures will be in the 40s with rain expected. This will melt a lot of the snow. Then, an arctic blast of cold air arrives for the start of next week. This will freeze all of the water on the roads into ice. And for a matter of fact, any wet surfaces will turn icy.
Let's explain what black ice is. It's not really black. It's actually a very thin layer of ice that forms on roads, sidewalks, driveways, or any wet surfaces. And it's so thin that it's practically transparent, making it hard to spot.
Some sidewalks are already covered in ice and we're expecting the road to look like this too. As black ice develops for the start of next week. Specifically, Monday night through Tuesday is when temperatures will be below freezing. Any untreated surfaces will turn icy. So put down salt on your stairs and driveway after this weekend. And be careful driving, it's easy to slide on black ice.
