FLOYD, N.Y. ---It was the first Friday in lent and the Floyd Volunteer fire department held their annual fish fry.
Volunteers were busy in the kitchen cooking up various types of fish and shrimp.
The Chief said the money goes towards covering costs associated with the firehouse. Whether that's maintaining their fire engines and equipment, to making sure the taxpayers aren't overpaying.
"Oh it definitely makes a difference, we do really well especially with the fish fries and everything else we do here. It offsets some of the taxes for when we buy a piece of equipment we give the district money to go towards it so the district doesn't have to raise taxes because we are all taxpayers too, said Chief DAN SCHWERTFEGER.
