A Floyd man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly sexually abused a child, according to Oneida County Undersherrif Joseph Lisi.
Philip Haggart, 64, was arrested Wednesday at the Sheriff’s Office by members of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center. He’s charged with felony first-degree sexual abuse.
Haggart is accused of sexually abusing a female child in 2017 and 2018, beginning when she was seven years old, at his home in Floyd.
Officials say the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office recommended that bail be set at $7,500, but after he was arraigned, Haggart was released on his own recognizance.
An order of protection against Haggart has been requested on behalf of the victim, and the child has also been offered counseling through the Child Advocacy Center.
Officials say additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
