ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Otsego County woman has admitted to stealing at least $34,000 from the Morris Central School District during a federal court appearance Wednesday.
Kristina Hand, 47, was the treasurer of the school district from 2014 through February of 2020. She
pleaded guilty to two counts of federal program theft for stealing from a district that received federal funds.
Hand admitted to stealing $24,000 by depositing checks payable to the school district into bank accounts that she controlled. She also admitted to stealing at least $10,000 more by using the school district’s Amazon account and credit cards to purchase items for her personal use.
Hand faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, and has already agreed to pay $34,000 in restitution to the school district.
She will be sentenced on May 11.
