Former Vice President Joe Biden is on the campaign trail with the Democratic candidate in the 19th Congressional District race.
Biden is stumping for Antonio Delgado, who is running against Republican Rep. John Faso, who was elected to the position in 2016. The 19th Congressional District encompasses Otsego County and stretches east to the border of New York State.
Much like the 22nd Congressional District race, the 19th Congressional District race is one that the whole country is interested in. The polls show Delgado and Faso are neck-and-neck.
Delgado supporters hope that Biden’s visit to Kingston on Friday is enough to secure the votes they need to win.
“I’ve never seen as many new, quality candidates as I’ve seen in this last year,” Biden said. “But certain people – and you can feel it, you can taste it, you can see it – are genuine exceptions. Who are really centered, who understand who they are.”
The Faso campaign welcomed Biden to the district and said it’s not a surprise that the prominent Democrat is supporting Delgado.
Faso released the following statement Friday afternoon:
"I'm pleased to welcome former Vice President Biden to the district. I appreciate his contributions to American political life over the past 40 years, and his role in searching for a cure to cancer. It is not a surprise that a prominent Democrat is endorsing my opponent. However, most people in our district don’t support higher taxes and the government run healthcare scheme promoted by my opponent."
