A Fort Drum soldier who was accused of raping a child in the village of Remsen has pleaded guilty to the crime, according to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office.
Paul Spalding, 21, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in Oneida County Court on Tuesday.
Back in April, Spalding – who was a U.S. Army Specialist at Fort Drum – was arrested at Fort Drum following a lengthy investigation.
Police say over the course of three months, Spalding visited a female child under the age of 16 several times in the village of Remsen. On one of those visits, Spalding had sexual intercourse with the child in a vehicle, according to police.
The U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigation Division was also involved in the investigation.
Spalding is scheduled to be sentenced in Oneida County Court on Nov. 13.
