EAGLE BAY, N.Y. – Four people ended up in the hospital after a power boat ran over a small rowboat on Fourth Lake in Eagle Bay on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019.
Chief Ronald Johnston says Richard Barry, 71, of Manlius, was driving his 2016 Cobalt boat and ran into two people in an aluminum rowboat, according to the Town of Webb Police Department.
The couple in the rowboat, David Manchester, 74, and Jeane Tommell, 64, both of Eagle Bay, were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica for treatment. Tommell suffered broken ribs and internal injuries, while Manchester was treated for multiple lacerations. The boat, which belonged to Tommell, was totaled after the accident.
Barry was issued appearance tickets for reckless operation, a misdemeanor, and operation over 5 mph within 100 feet of a moored or slowed vessel.
Barry and his passenger were also taken for St. Elizabeth’s to be treated after the accident.
