UTICA, NY - Hilton and American Express are offering free hotel rooms to doctors, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and medical staff who need a place to sleep or isolate from their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lee Arthur is the general manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Utica. He says the hotel has been holding on and doing ok, but is in no way doing business as usual.

"Since the government shutdowns and the travel bans, it’s been a one-of-a-kind challenge. It’s been the first of its kind in the hospitality business," says Arthur.

The Hampton by Hilton on North Genesee Street, the DoubleTree by Hilton, and the Hampton located in the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome are all participating - but it’s because they want to, not because they have to.

"Hotels can opt in or opt out if they feel like they’re not - you know they can’t afford that or they’re not seeing a return - and Visions Hotels as a whole throughout our whole state, we have opted in. We want to join in this partnership, and we want to donate. You know Hilton is helping us with that minimal reimbursement coming back to the hotels, but the rest of it we’re happy to join in."

The free hotel rooms are being offered to about 20 agencies (listed below), and the current program extends through May 30th .
