Monday marked the start of the Levitt AMP Utica Music Series in Kopernik Park.

The free concerts kicked off with indie rock bank Sub-Radio, with The Paul Case Band opening for them.

The concert series is now in its third year, and over the years it has helped to transform the Oneida Square section of Utica. Organizers for the event are hoping to build on the momentum they’ve garnered over the past two years, with the goal of creating a sense of community.

"The campaign for the last couple of years has been to come and discover a new downtown Utica,” said Michelle Truett. “We're giving people a reason to come, a reason to believe in Utica and reason to get a good vibe going and good excitement going in the city."

Utica is one of only 15 cities in the country that was awarded a grant to make the concerts possible. It’s similar to the old Utica Monday Nites, and the founder of that program is involved with Levitt Amp.

The concerts are from 6-9 p.m. June 25 through Aug. 27. They’re all family-friendly and free to attend. If it rains on the night of a concert, it will be held inside Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute.
