ALBANY, N.Y. -- Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is looking to expand mandatory paid sick leave during public health emergencies amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The Paid Sick Days for Public Health Emergencies and Personal Family Care Act would require employers to offer 14 days of additional paid sick leave during public health emergencies.
Gillibrand says some people may not have enough sick leave available to visit the doctor, be placed in quarantine or stay home from work if infected by coronavirus.
The bill would require paid sick coverage for all employees and expand qualifying events to school or work facility closings, quarantine, family care and other public health emergencies.
