Oneida County executive candidate Dave Gordon is now facing a defamation lawsuit.
Caitlin McCann, who Gordon accused of having an affair with current County Executive Anthony Picente, has officially filed the lawsuit.
Gordon was given one week to retract all of the statements he made about McCann, but he refused to do so and reinforced them.
Dave Gordon released the following statement:
“I find it ironic that the media has received yet again paperwork on a lawsuit that is supposed to have merit claiming that their suit is for defamation. Does anyone question the motive behind the attorney and their client releasing a lawsuit to the media during a hotly contested campaign? Why rush the lawsuit unless it is again another attempt at deceiving the public? Why continue to bring publicity to your client by releasing a frivolous lawsuit unless your agenda includes deception in order to help the very candidate that you've donated to. Let the public ponder that question for a minute. No reputable attorney would be releasing their documents to the media.”
