Albany, N.Y. - Governor Andrew Cuomo announced new COVID-19 confirmed cases are now up 3,254 throughout the state, with the majority of those in New York City.

New York City has 6,211 cases, with 1,803 new cases.
Westchester County has 1,385 cases, with 294 new cases.
Nassau County has 1,234 cases, with 480 news cases.

Also in the top ten are two upstate counties, Albany County with 163 cases, 79 of them are new cases and Monroe County with 42 cases, 10 of them are new cases.

Cuomo says the results are leading the U.S. and are expected to because New York has doubled the number of tests done compared with California and Washington which are the numbers two and three states as far as confirmed cases go, "The more tests you take, the more positives you find. The number of new cases is only reflective of the number of tests you are taking. We're actually looking for positives to stop the spread. We are taking more tests in New York than any place else, more per capita than China and South Korea, also more tests than any state in the U.S.. We've done 45,000 tests, California has done 23,000 and Washington has done 23,000."

Cuomo also talked about social responsibility and that we all play a role in how long this crisis will last and how many lives will be lost, specifically talking to young people who are not taking this crisis seriously, "You're not superman and you're not superwoman, you can get the virus and you can transmit the virus, you can hurt someone you love and someone you don't know. This is a public health issue and you cannot endanger someone else's health."

Cuomo says he is going to head to the parks in New York City to see for himself the people who are not doing what they are supposed to be doing and that is staying home as much as possible to prevent the spread of the virus.

Cuomo says this is a crisis but it's also a time to find our better selves, "We're seeing that a crisis brings out the truth about ourselves and others, you see people's strengths and people's weaknesses, you see society's strengths and society's weaknesses. Practice humanity, the time is now to show some kindness, show some compassion to people. Time for a smile when you're walking past someone, time for a hello, don't let the little things get to you. Yes we have a problem, yes we will deal with it, yes we will overcome it, and let us find our better selves in doing it."
