UTICA, N.Y. ---Grace Church in Utica is taking part in a nationwide event called "Souper" Bowl of Caring.
Churches and food pantries across the country were collecting food donations for those in need on Super Bowl Sunday.
Two baskets were set up at church masses to collect donations.
Grace church has been collecting items for the past three weeks, and so far, they've received over two hundred food donations.
"There's a great need and a lot of people need food around here. We have a lot of people that come from the county building and they go there for benefits. But the benefits don't kick in right away and they come down here to us for emergency food and we are part of an emergency food network. so we give them food and tell them which food pantries they can go to," Food Pantry Manager Edward Dobyna.
The city was divided up into 8 different sections as part of the campaign. Grace Church was responsible for collecting for the downtown region.
Dobyna said that if you couldn't donate today, they are always accepting donations.
