NEW HARTFORD, NY - Volunteering in the community can be very rewarding. Northwestern Mutual is taking the time to recognize 16 of its community volunteers and presenting them with a grant to benefit a local nonprofit organization that the volunteer supports.
Saturday, one of those volunteers, Dana DiNigro, presented her grant, a check for $15,000 to CNY Quest for Mia's Place.
Mia's Place is new to the area and is located in the Par Technology Business Park on Seneca Turnpike. It's also named after DiNigro's daughter. She says it's a place where children with and without learning disabilities can play and learn together without becoming overstimulated.
"Throughout the years we've really noticed that there's not a lot of locations that we can bring her that were not overstimulating. So creating a place where she can learn and play without the judgment or overload of sensory that might come from other locations has been very important to us. We've always felt there's been a need to do something like this in the area for these children."
Mia's Place will open its doors on Tuesday, March 30. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, the number of people allowed in will be limited so reservations are required.
