NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. --- Hair salons were allowed to reopen on Friday as part of Phase 2. However, salons going forwards have to abide by strict state guidelines in order to stay open.
Cheveux Hair Salon in New Hartford was accepting customers at 50 percent capacity for the first time in about 3 months. All customers also need to wear masks and their temperature is taken at the door. The state is also mandating that all salon and barbershop employees get tested for COVID-19 once every two weeks. Owner Lisa Frateschi that she's willing to make whatever changes necessary in order to continue taking customers.
"At this point, I'll do what I have to do to keep my business going. I know it's temporary. We're not gonna have to test every two weeks for the rest of our lives. If it's going to keep me my coworkers and my clients safe I have no problem doing it" said Frateschi.
Lisa told NEWSChannel 2 that like many businesses across the area, being closed for 3 months dealt a significant blow financially. Money that she said she can't get back.
"There is no making that money up, that money is gone. There's a lot more time we're taking to sanitize. We have to buy a lot more materials and products. But you cant make up the money that you lost," said Frateschi.
Lisa said she's excited to see all of her employees and customers back and looks forward to a positive year going forward.
