ONEONTA N.Y.- Starting Friday April 10th, the empty dorms at Hartwick College will be temporarily available for the City's First Responders who may need to be quarantined after potential COVID-19 exposure.
The Oneonta Common Council voted at Tuesday night's Common Council Meeting held through a conference call to authorize Mayor Gary Herzig to enter a memorandum of understanding.
About two weeks ago Hartwick College President Margaret Drugovich offered the Dorms at no charge to the City for whatever it needed.
"I just really wanted to say a big thank you to Hartwick College and President Drugovich for their sense of community and genoricity." said Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig. "With (the College) being the first to offer, and then immediately following through when we ask them for help."
The Dorms will be available from Friday April 10th until June 26th for up to 10 City of Oneonta Firefighters, Police Officers, and EMS workers in need of Quarantine. The Common Council also voted to approve budget transfers for up to $20,000 for any Unexpected COVID-19 related expenditures such as masks or protective equipment.
