NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - This year’s Boilermaker has a different feel to it but there is one thing definitely the same, and that is, this event is all about health.
At the MVHS Boilermaker Health and Wellness Expo at Sangertown Square in New Hartford, you may not be able to get your cholesterol checked like in previous years because of Covid, but you can still get your blood pressure checked and MVHS officials say that can be a lifesaver, especially for those who haven’t had their blood pressure checked in a while.
MVHS Stroke Outreach Nurse Sheri Bolton urges those who venture out to the expo this weekend to stop by and get their blood pressure checked.
Bolton says while talking to people, MVHS Health personnel on hand definitely stress the importance of knowing the symptoms of stroke and they use the acronym FASTER, “F, you’re looking for facial deviations, so if somebody has a facial droop. A, we have arms, if the arms are uneven at any time when you hold them out. S, we have the smile or speech, so if you got a smile and having your face would not look right or they can't speak so they can't find their words so they sound like, it's a word salad we like to call it. T, time, you know want to know exactly when it started and you want to call 911 immediately. E for eyes, someone may have difficulty seeing out of one or both eyes or have double vision. And then R is react, call 911 and take an ambulance, do not drive yourself.”
The expo is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as well.
