UTICA, N.Y. -- The Democratic candidate for Oneida County executive says the current executive, Anthony Picente, is refusing to debate. He also says Picente is trying to have him removed from the ballot.
Democrat, Michael Hennessy, says he's learned that Picente is appealing him being placed back on the ballot for this fall's election.
He's calling it 'undemocratic' to try and eliminate an opponent and says it's the taxpayers who will pay.
"Wants to just play politics by trying to take this to another level of courts. It's wasteful money. The first round was paid for by the taxpayers of Oneida County. It's a delay in us talking about the real issues that are facing this county,” he said.
Hennessy says Picente missed the deadline to appeal.
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente "I debated Mike Hennessy for years while he was on the Board of Legislators, he was wrong then and he’s wrong now, I’m the only Conservative candidate in this race. The State and County Conservative parties recognize that and that’s why I’m the only candidate on the Conservative ballot."
