WEBB, N.Y. – The Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office is looking for more information on a hit-and-run boating accident that happened on Fourth Lake over the weekend.
On Saturday, July 25, around 6 p.m., a 15-year-old driving a jet ski collided with a boat near the Fourth Lake sandbar. The boat driver left the scene immediately, according to the sheriff’s office.
The teen injured his back and ankle during the accident, but a relative who was close by on a jet ski, and another concerned citizen, helped bring him to shore on a pontoon boat.
He was treated at the Inlet Marina before he was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. The teen is in stable condition.
The boat that fled the scene was described as a 20-foot white boat, possibly a cuddy style, with a thick blue stripe on both sides. The boat also has an open top with a windshield.
The driver of the boat is described as a thin, white man.
Anyone with information about the incident should call 315-867-1167. Those with nearby camps that may have caught the incident on surveillance video, are also asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
