HERKIMER, N.Y. – Herkimer County Public Health is working to distribute vaccines, but like other counties, their supply doesn’t meet the demand.
Director of Public Health Christina Cain says the county only gets enough vaccines for a fraction of the population each week.
"Specifically, at Public Health, we might get 100-200 doses weekly. We have a population in this county of just over 64,000 people. That doesn't go very far," she said.
Sometimes, Cain says she and her staff are hearing updates from the state the same time as the public.
But they are working to get details, and are asking everyone to patient.
"Please be patient. The vaccine is coming out. It will continue to come out. We will get to you. You will get a spot. Don't give up but also don't panic and just try to be patient," she said.
All local appointments are booked for the near future, as most sites wait for a new shipment of vaccines.
Cain says the most updated information on appointment availability and locations can be found on the health department’s website.
