Herkimer County man convicted of child porn charges

BINGHAMTON - A Herkimer County man was found guilty of of child porn charges after a trial which concluded this week.

Thursday, Daniel M. Passero, Jr. was convicted by a Binghamton jury of receiving and possessing child pornography. He was accused of downloading hundreds of sexually explicit images of children between July of 2015 and January of 2016, and saving those images to a memory card that was later found on a smartphone at his home. At the time of the offense, Passero was on parole for a prior sex offense involving a child.

Passero faces a sentence of 15-60 years in prison, a fine up to $250,000, and post-release supervision.

The case was investigated by United States Homeland Security Investigations, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, New York State Police with assistance from the Gloversville Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Burlington Police department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
