DANUBE- A town of Danube man is being recognized for his heroic efforts saving a Yorkville woman from being trapped after her vehicle went off the road and rolled over several times.

This happened in September 2018. Police said 40 year old Melissa Knudsen became trapped inside the car near Route 5S. They said nearby neighbor, Jason Ploss heard the crash and ran to the scene. He saw the woman inside the car and the doors pinned due to damage from the car rolling over.

Ploss removed Knudsen from the drivers side right before the car went up in flames. Police said if it wasn't for him, Knudsen could have died.

New York State Police honored Ploss with a New York State Police Certificate of Recognition for his lifesaving efforts.
